Dear beloved f-list, feel free to ignore the following post. In fact, after almost a year of disappearance, I truly think this is a very poor returning entry to this journal. But I really need to place this soundtrack trading list somewhere until I can find a better location to keep it. So erm, please bear with it till it disappears from your f-list entries.

But hey, if you do see anything you like in there, just ask, okay? 83

Writer's Block: Promises, promises

What, if any, resolutions did you make in 2009 and how many did you keep? Do you plan to make any resolutions for 2010? Do you find this tradition constructive or debilitating?

I used to make New Years resolutions, but eventually realized "What's the point?" when I found myself often making the same ones over and over again, and that things were easier said than done. That's why on January 1, 1999 I resolved not to make any more New Year's resolutions, and to this day, I have met it.  Besides, I always have many things I want to accomplish every year, month, week, day, hour, minute, and second, and only care about getting them done, not when I start.

I'm not sure if I ever found the New Years resolution constructive or not, but I know that people usually don't meet their resolutions.  At times, I find it debilitating, because some people feel that they need to make resolutions, which is already stressful, and having to meet them is extra stress.  Finally, not meeting them by the end of the year could cause dissatisfaction and guilt.

When it gets unusually cold, snowy, and/or rainy, do you prefer to remain indoors? If there's a long stretch of bad weather, do you tend to get depressed and/or stir crazy? If so, how do you cope?

I can't stand being bundled up, especially on my limbs.  It makes me feel smothered and the clothing material on my arms and legs slow me down, which is the worst part.  I enjoy moving quickly.  Covering limbs means more fabric, which takes up more areas in laundry machines.  Sometimes, that requires more loads and money.  That is why I hate cold weather winter.

I also can't stand the shorter daylight hours, more darkness, cold temperatures, rain, and gloominess in winter.  Rain is usually the worst part.  It is a big inconvenience and hindrance, especially to speed.  I understand we need rain, but not to the point of flooding and soaking.  I'm glad we don't have snow where I live, but rain is bad enough.  It is better if it falls at night only, and if it continues for days, I get really upset and more depressed.

Unfortunately, I don't have a choice but to live with the bad weather.  I have to carry out my daily routines and activities.  I am not an outdoor person to begin with, so during bad weather, I stay indoors even more.

A Fic Year In Review - 2009

  • Dec. 31st, 2009 at 10:40 PM
Given my lack of a fic masterlist, next best thing is to do another Fic Year in Review!  It's not really a proper post-mortem, but it helps to look back on the year's writing accomplishments (or lack thereof) and take stock of lessons learnt.

The complete antithesis of last year, this was the year of the one-shot.  Only three fics of any significant length, and one of those is still in progress.

Fic list under the cut )
This didn't really work last year, but let's try again - I might poke you guys for some feedback too. Which was your favourite fic of the year on this journal and why? And more importantly, which one did you dislike the most (of the ones you read)?

Are there any classic holiday movies or TV shows that you look forward to watching year after year? What are your all-time favorites? Are there any you simply can't stand?

When Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas movie was released in the winter of 2000, I went to the theater for it, because I had enjoyed How the Grinch Stole Christmas cartoon in the past.  I then rented it every year until I decided to buy it in 2004, and have continued to watch it during the holidays every year.

The movie is touching and teaches good lessons.  I also like the singing, especially Faith Hill's Where are You Christmas? The story and song remind me of myself.  As a child, I would look forward to Christmas, especially the presents.  However, as I got older, reasons for enjoying the holidays changed from gifts to holiday spirit, joy, kindness, and giving.

Though movies on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol are often aired and sometimes in theaters, I've never seen it, except cartoon episodes based on the book, or allusions to the story in movies.  In 2002, I started a yearly holiday routine of reading the book, and have continued with it.  That story has good lessons too, but I don't think the ghosts and possible consequences could change modern people.  Many people today are unpleasant and proud of it.

Many Christmas-related movies have been produced.  I've seen some in theaters over the years, and in future years, I would catch them aired on TV.  For a few years, they would always show Stepmom during the holidays, and every time I see it, I get teary.  I also catch bits of other movies, such as The Santa Clause series.  However, there are movies I never wish to see, and those are have sad endings, nasty and improper content, or bad influences to society.
